KBC Bank – Not your Dad’s Bank campaign 2016

KBC.jpg

[concept x Artwork Design x ART Direction x Finished Art]

The imagery for KBC’s ‘Not Your Dad’s Bank’ campaign had to be very striking to compliment the tone of the copy. I worked alongside a copywriter in Javelin to create the idea and cross collaboration in our work was crucial in producing the design and artwork elements of the project. Matching the humour in the imagery to the tongue and cheek comedy scripted in the copy was a necessary part to the art direction process. So that meant everything from choosing the right decade for visual style, and the 1980’s was a perfect match, to the imperative task of creating simple designs with the imagery in finished art layouts, that allowed for an impactful delivery of the headline and offer. Irish ferries – epic sale campaign 2016

EPIC Sale.jpg

[Created concept x Artwork Design x Finished Art]

Irish Ferries requested a new idea for their ‘Epic Sale’ campaign where they offered up to 50% on selected routes. They wanted something loud that was going to amplify the scale of the offer so it was crucial that the visual was striking. I produced the initial idea of personifying the word ‘sale’ as a ship coming in to dock to make the offer the forefront of the overall design and this eventually graduated into a visualisation of the offer instead in the same manner. A key part to the design concept was to create space when it came to finished art by combining both the offer and the product image into one piece. A rather hasty turnover was required so I oversaw all additional repurposing of the design and artwork from press, to print and even to digital display. The idea was very successful generating great sales boosts during that particular summer and creating a strong online presence. Barnardos – Summer impact piece 2016

Barnardos - Summer Impact Piece – Newsletter_v3_Page_2.jpg

[design & layout x art direction x finished art]

Every year Barnardos send out summer information pack called the ‘Summer Impact Piece’ to their current donors. Therefore the initial challenge was obvious, and that was to view designs from previous years of the campaign and identify areas that could be improved upon and create a design that structured the information in a more appealing fashion. Improving also meant making new additions to the piece, and that came in the form of fetching fresh testimonials from donors with fantastic stories on their efforts in raising money for Barnardos. These stories created an accessible platform for donors to engage with and also became an avenue for providing fund raising ideas. More importantly on the design and layout, I staggered these stories on the cover and inside pages with pockets of crucial information for the piece filling the free space. This allowed the reader to digest the details whilst retaining their interest till the final page with the stories and accompanying images. As a charity donor DM piece it was important to reflect the positive nature of their service and I did this through the use of their colourful brand palette. I chose a litany of bright brand colours in block form to produce a rather innocent yet proud and colourful piece.

Davy Stockbrokers – GPS Funding Service 2016

[Concept x Art Direction x Finished Art]

To answer the brief from Davy Stockbrokers on quite a short budget, I created this visual piece from assisting in the concept development right through to finished art. The image for the piece was the utmost important aspect for the client, and they were very particular in articulating their vision. Therefore it was vital that I understood it and executed it with their grand brand identity in mind. Sending the image to be worked on by an illustrator to work on the special graphics was a significant part in achieving the exact visual both myself and the client wanted. I also worked hands on with the finished for the project across different formats and platforms.

Bacardi – francois K Poster

[Design x art direction x finished Art]

A hasty project with a very short turn around for Bacardi as they had a cancelation during their Spring Club Night Series. A new DJ was announced and fresh social and print material was required as soon as possible. Having a background in music and DJing I knew that first off and most important is the information, ‘When, Where and Who is it?’. So the design was always going to work around it. I designed a layout using a simple right alined column to house the information copy and required logos. This sat in an nice ratio of the composition alongside a portrait image of Francois K. However, rather than rely on the old faithful cool DJ image, I used an abstract take on the image cutting in the quarters, and blurring opposites segments with white frames. This allowed for Bacardi an opportunity to role out the semi revealed poster a day before full release of content using it as a simple ticket giveaway competition.

Property Solvers Umlimited – Brand Design

PSU Imagei.jpg

[Concept x Brand Identity x Logo Design]

This was a freelance project for an international client, Detroit based real estate company Property Solvers Unlimited. I applied many skills throughout this work from concept development to art direction and from illustration to brand identity. They initially came to me with some ideas, a rough website and some mock up designs and it became clear through some discussion that design was where they needed direction. They were building a small business within a market of huge competitors, so it was important to them with a unique and appealing look. I endeavoured to create a very personable brand, and the first step of this was their colour palette. I tried to stray away from the conventional dark navies and stark reds that dominate the industry, using royal blue and a light cian I was able to achieve this whilst creating an engaging and reassuring style. Next was the logo design, where I was able to harness the new colour palette in a design to represent the brand. In Adobe Illustrator I produced an artwork that was the combination of two symbols, central to Property Solvers. These two decisive elements were a quaint, comfortable looking home and a symbol of reliability in the form of a trusting handshake. The parallel of these two sides to the artwork lent itself to generating my vision of an accessible and effective brand platform. I also provided fonts, a rough brand guideline and consultation on use of the new brand assets in different areas of media.
